Be all you can be

Hello world …

I’m Paul Ali, one of the lucky interns who got accepted into the December 2020 to March 2021 Outreachy internship program.I am from Kenya and will be working as an OpenStack Manila intern during this period on the Unified limits support project.

My core values are adventure , community and openness. They form the core of my belief system.

Adventure is important in that it allows one to seek opportunities that are fun and challenging.Such opportunities promote self-growth as one is constantly outside their comfort zone.

Community ensures individuals do not feel alone especially in trying times.A sense of belonging is essential for growth and progress of individuals for they feel supported in whatever actions they pursue.

Openness brings down all the barriers that have been put in place. All people who desire to join a community can do so and not be hindered by their backgrounds or identity. Also , openness among members of a community is vital because it improves unity of members since they are honest to themselves and each other.

The aforementioned values are what prompted me to apply for the Outreachy internship. From the website , Outreachy’s main purpose is to support diversity in open source and free software. This proves that the program embraces a policy of openness in that anyone from anywhere regardless of their background and identity can participate. The program also takes interns regardless of their skill level and they are guided on how to make contributions to the open source projects. That in itself shows a sense of community and adventure by both the interns and the mentors. The interns are bold enough to work on projects they had never seen before while the mentors guide them on the standards and procedures they ought to adhere to.
